Mars Society Belgium

Nicky de Munster schrijft een blog over zijn missie in het MDRS. Nicky De Munster is werkzaam als leerkracht informatica in CVO Waregem Anzegem Tielt. In mijn vrije tijd ben ik space teacher voor Euro Space Society met als voorzitter Dirk Frimout. Ik geef lezingen en activiteiten omtrent ruimtevaart in de lagere scholen. Op 16 oktober werd ik als commander van MDRS109 geselecteerd om deel te nemen aan mijn 2e Mars simulatie in het Mars Desert Research Station in Utah. De Missie gaat door van 17 tot 31 december.

Oppy vient de franchir le cap des 30 km parcourus depuis son arrivée!! Il a aussi fait 148m en un "sol"!

Voici une photo extraordinaire ... : pour la première fois, un vaisseau russe Soyouz s'est décroché de la Station Spatiale Internationale pour rentrer sur Terre alors que la navette spatiale, Endeavour en l'occurrence, y était accrochée ... Le Soyouz ramenait l'équipage TM 20 et l'astronaute italien Paolo Nespoli, ayant séjourné 6 mois dans l'Espace.

One of the biggest challenges for the effective exploration and exploitation of space has been the high cost of space access. Over the last several decades governments and companies alike have made numerous attempts to lower the cost of reaching orbit, from the Space Shuttle program to various proposed commercial launchers, with little success.

Ce mois d’avril 2011 a commémoré un double anniversaire historique :

le 12 avril 1961, le cosmonaute russe Youri Gagarine devenait le premier homme dans l’espace et le 12 avril 1981, la toute première navette spatiale américaine, Columbia, effectuait son baptême spatial ! 

After repeated calls from NASA to wake up Mars Exploration Rover Spirit from its low-energy hibernation mode, mission control is beginning to realize the ill-fated robot may never wake up again. After getting stuck in a sand trap in Gusev Crater and then switching into hibernation in March, rover operators were hopeful that the beached Spirit might yet be saved. Alas, this is looking more and more unlikely.

Recent observations of the lunar and martian surface are turning up multiple discoveries of 'skylights' — collapsed roofs of hollow rilles or lava tubes. These holes into ready-made underground bunkers could provide ideal shelter for future manned bases on the two worlds.
