Nancy Vermeulen

Nancy VermeulenPresident of Mars Society Belgium, responsible for Flanders.

Nancy was born on July 25th, 1975 and lives in Hove near Antwerp.
She obtained a masters degree in physics at Universiteit Antwerpen and specialized in astrophysics.
Afterwards she became airline pilot and flew six years on Boeing 727 and Airbus 300 for DHL.
Currently she's working as a scientist at the RMI in Uccle and she's a flight instructor in Antwerp. She accumulated 2400 flight hours.
In her spare time she's an active member of Volkssterrenwacht Urania in Hove, advisor of FLAG (Flemish Aerospace Group) and "Space Teacher" at Dirk Frimout's Euro Space Society.
In 2003 she visited Frank De Winne in Star City and made a simulated flight in the Sojoez-TMA.
Inspired by astronomy and space flight, she is known as a passionate speaker and she frequently gives lectures for a large audience. She also organises public activities like the parabolic flight at the occasion of Frank De Winne's launch.
In May 2008 she was a candidate astronaut for ESA.

Nancy Vermeulen will be the first Flemish commander of an MDRS-mission and will perform experiments in relation with the Sun and the composition of the atmosphere for the RMI.
She is also responsible for the communication regarding MDRS 90 in Flanders.
